National Spanish Honor Society
MISSION
The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
Must be in Spanish 3 (have entered and above)
Have 3.0 GPA in Spanish classes (this is when you average all your Spanish class grades together)
10 hours of community service USING YOUR SPANISH LANGUAGE SKILLS.
You must attend a minimum of 5 meetings in the 2014-2015 school year (see bottom of page for meeting dates).
STUDENT COST
$15 to join (1st year)
$10 yearly after that.
**includes some activities and graduation cords
AWARDS
Graduation honor cord
Scholarships available for college tuition and travel from the National Spanish Honor Society
Possible publication in the society’s magazine
Certificate of Membership to NSHS
STUDENT JOURNAL
The SHH publishes the journal ¡Albricias! which contains essays, poetry, and short articles as well as photography and artwork created by student members of the SHH. ¡Albricias! is distributed to chapter sponsors four times per year and is permanently archived on the website. Cash awards are presented to students for contributions that are published. Information about submitting to ¡Albricias! can be found on the website. Submit student work via email to Megan Flinchbaugh, Editor: [email protected]
SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRIZES
The SHH awards numerous scholarships and prizes to student members and chapter sponsors. Information and application forms for these scholarships and prizes are available on the website.

Annoucements
August 27: Our NSHS officers are Trina Duncan (president), Chamoya Wong and Mary Beth Holec (VPs), and Kendall Porter (secretary). Congrats ladies! WE ARE GOING ON A FIELD TRIP ON OCTOBER 17th (the day before Fall break). We are going to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. The cost is $14.00. We will meet in September to prepare for the trip, arrange volunteer hours and opportunities and habla un poquito en espanol.
Your CLUB DUES are due SEPTEMBER 15
Field Trip $$ is due October 1
August 21: ELECTIONS FOR OFFICERS
The following officer positions are available this year: President, Vice President and Secretary. We will not have the position of treasurer this year. If you are interested in running for these positions, please return the application by Tuesday, August 26th. Elections will be held on Wednesday August 27th immediately after school. Results will be announced on the morning announcements by Friday August 29th.
Officer Duties
President-keep in contact with your administrative team, coordinate tasks that need to be accomplished, help identify and facilitate volunteer opportunities, run SHS meetings.
Vice President-Assist the president with meetings, volunteering opportunities and activities.
Secretary-take meeting minutes, type them up, post them to the website, organize files (info sheets), count up/double check volunteer hours, keep track of meeting attendance.
OFFICERS SHOULD PLAN TO ASSIST ALL MEETINGS AS WELL AS PUT IN HOURS AFTER SCHOOL DURING SOCIAL EVENTS AND VOLUNTEERING. OFFICERS SHOULD BE REACHABLE BY MRS. P AND THEIR FELLOW OFFICERS AT ALL TIMES (within reason) AND WILLING TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE THIS THE BEST SHS YEAR EVER!
